Staff Engineer, R&D Product Development Planning

Role and Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

Technical lead -Thermal sciences (Refrigerator, Heat pump Dryer, non-conventional Heat pump systems) representing Samsung within Regulatory Agencies, Universities, Industry groups and Open Innovation partners, leads Technology sensing and monitoring IP activities by competition, provides patentable novel innovation ideas and concepts to sustain Samsung’s technology leadership. This position also is responsible for reactive aspects of product safety and failure analysis relating to DA products field quality in identifying potential safety risk areas and develop testing methodology to assess safety risk and propose robustness solutions.

Leads and conducts research on technology trends and standards. 

• This role conducts complex high-level technical analysis of customer requirements and creates, evaluates, and develops implementation concepts / approaches to meet customer requirements.
• Conducts complex high-level analysis / evaluation of various technical implementation approaches including internal, and external competitive alternatives. 

This role is responsible for identifying performance improvements and enhancements to improve the product's competitive position in the industry. Problems and issues are numerous, typically undefined where information is difficult to obtain.

• Conducts extensive investigation to understand root cause of problems. 
• Applies expertise across several subsystems, or in-depth practical experience of several job areas within a product category, combining theory, past practical experience and organization's development processes.

Has practical experience in technical leadership and management techniques.

Proactively engages with the external environment for a lookout of possible new knowledge /Intelligence and in developing and representing strategic company position  

Skills and Qualifications

THE CANDIDATE

Background & Competencies Required:

Knowledge/expertise/experience

• 15+ years of directly related experience in R&D or Advanced R&D research relating to Thermal sciences applicable to Appliances is required. Prior experience in leading a technical/research team is preferred.
• Must be able to write, read, analyze, interpret and provide critical review of highly technical engineering research reports/ papers and prepare research reports for internal and external communication.
• Must have experience with engineering analysis, experimental techniques and statistical analysis Methods and MS office for reports and presentations

Skills

• Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels within the company and frequent external contacts, including universities, government agencies and start up technology companies.
• Should have ability to Plan, organize and prioritize multiple and simultaneous projects.
• Ability to communicate in writing, through email, reports, orally and formal presentations, highly complex technical matters to an audience of equal technically oriented listeners.
• Ability to lead and direct the activities of lab engineers to achieve product and syste
