What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Staff Scientist to provide laboratory leadership and support services to perform interdisciplinary and collaborative research from bench to beside with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
Combine biochemical, molecular, cellular, genetic, and quantitative approaches to investigate fundamental biological processes across a range of organisms, including fish, flies, mice, mammals, microbes, and viruses.
Gain an understanding on how cells sense, respond, and adapt to a variety of stress conditions, including nutrient deprivation, organelle damage, and pathogen infection.
Address how alterations in mTOR, TFEB, TFE3, and lysosomal function lead to human disease.
Seek to identify potential sites for therapeutic intervention suitable for further evaluation in translational and clinical research efforts.
Contribute to training and mentoring of all laboratory members.
What You Will Need:
PhD with at least TWO (2) years of postdoctoral research experience in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related field OR
Master’s degree with at least FIVE (5) years of intensive, hands-on research experience in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or related field in lieu of PhD
Must have a mastery of Zebrafish models with skills such as husbandry, genetic crossing, and genotyping protocols.
Must have a have a strong publication record.
Experience working with other animal models.
Expertise in cellular biology and microscopy imaging.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD Public Trust. Candidates must receive approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active Public Trust or existing suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
Advanced skills in light microscopy are strongly desired.
Knowledge of organelle cell biology (lysosomes, autophagy, intracellular trafficking), and a commitment to conducting related high-quality research.
Able to work independently and in a team setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Outstanding interpersonal and time management skills.
Demonstrated experience in staff training and mentoring.
