Job Description Summary

Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) seeks a full-time Associate Director of Regional Clinical Research Operations (“AD-RCRO”) to support the Associate Director for Clinical Research (ADCR) in facilitating the One Cancer Clinical Research vision, broadening patient access to research by fostering productive interrelationships among oncology specialties, sub-specialties, and Penn entities (i.e., CCH, HUP, LGH, PAH, PMPH, and PPMC) (“locations”). Importantly, this position will serve as a mentor and resource to individual locations as they develop and grow their clinical research programs

Job Responsibilities

The AD-RCRO reports to the ADCR (via solid line) and is responsible for a variety of duties with an emphasis on:

• Promoting Operations: Act as a subject matter expert with a comprehensive knowledge of functions, processes, technologies, and ACC resources as it pertains to clinical research. Serve as a resource and mentor as locations develop their own best practices and standard operating procedures. Provide consultative services to teams and units (at all stages of growth) with regards to clinical research frameworks (e.g., structures, workflows, etc.) using guiding principles, individual experience, and the collective experience of Penn locations. Identify gaps in services at other locations and endeavor to help them fill those gaps with ACC central/shared resources (e.g., legal, billing, finance, etc.) or local resources (as appropriate), ensuring a consistent and smooth integration process. Encourage knowledge sharing to promote participant safety and satisfaction, and to increase efficiency and improve processes.

• Developing and Fostering Relationships: Create and maintain positive relationships, encourage meaningful collaboration, and create guidelines for collaborative efforts between locations. Assist with communication-related issues between/among locations and central/shared resources. Help stakeholders understand the differences between locations, take initiative to proactively solve conflicts, and engage in conflict mediation.

• Exchanging Information: Serve as the official point-of-contact, intermediary, and representative for stakeholders, addressing questions and concerns as they arise. Facilitate the exchange of information and expertise through diverse channels. Importantly, this includes developing a fluid transfer structure that is patient-centered and optimizes data integrity when research participants, investigational products, and samples are transferred between sites. Flag and prioritize any risks associated with subject safety while simultaneously navigating a complex compliance landscape with unique clinical, regulatory, administrative, and financial needs.

Collect and follow key metrics (performance and outcomes) to measure the health of each research team. Support the implementation of new procedures or operational changes to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
