About the role

The Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, established in 1975, and home to nearly 2,000 alumni, plays a leading role in veterinary care and research in Oregon and beyond. We are the state’s largest group of board-certified veterinary specialists, and one of just 34 accredited veterinary colleges across the United States. We make discoveries that have the power to save the lives of animals and humans across the world. Our faculty are experts in specialized fields such as oncology, reproductive medicine, surgery, pathology, infectious disease, cardiology, and small animal rehabilitation, providing cutting-edge care and contributing to the advancement of veterinary science.

The college offers academic programming to students pursuing professional and graduate programs in veterinary medicine and comparative health sciences, granting DVM, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, along with a certificate in One Health for undergraduates. We currently have 365 students across the College – 332 doctor of veterinary medicine candidates; 33 graduate students in the comparative health sciences program; and 9 dual-enrolled students in our DVM and comparative health sciences program. The College is home to 243 faculty and staff in two departments: the Department of Clinical Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

We care for beloved pets and high-performing equine athletes, domestic animals who give us food and wild ones who balance ecosystems. Direct clinical and diagnostic services are offered to the public through the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Last year, we cared for over 20,000 animals through these entities.
