Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Water/Wastewater Engineering Intern to be based in Chelmsford, MA.
This position is designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic area and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
This position is expected to begin in May 2026.
Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning.

Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
- Water / wastewater treatment evaluation and design.
- Pump station evaluation and design.
- Water distribution system hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design.
- Sewer collection system evaluation and design.
- Stormwater modeling, analysis, and design.
- Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within the Autodesk Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD MEP.
- Assist in the development and application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses related to floodplain management studies and a variety of water resource projects
- Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with an emphasis in water resources, water or wastewater treatment, conveyance/pipelines, or related field and must have completed at least two years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A GPA of 3.0 of higher
- Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment, and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn
- A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven environment
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong logic skills and writing skills
