Our Organization and Mission:

The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state’s civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. It is against Florida law to discriminate on the bases of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status. The Commission investigates complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and state employee whistle-blower retaliation.

 

The Commission is responsible for promoting fair treatment, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among members of all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and works to eliminate discrimination against groups and their members.

 

The Work You Will Do:

This is an independent professional position as a Government Operations Consultant I, investigating housing discrimination complaints and ensuring compliance with fair housing laws. The GOC I will gather and analyze evidence, conduct interviews and fact-finding sessions, and prepare investigative reports, determinations, and conciliation agreements.  Must maintain accurate case records in HEMS and the agency’s case management system.

 

The GOC I will support team success by mentoring staff, assisting with onboarding, identifying process improvements, and reviewing conciliation agreements for compliance. The GOC I will conduct investigative and conciliation activities across the agency’s jurisdiction, providing guidance to the public on housing discrimination and helping individuals file or amend complaints.

 

Participate in outreach and education efforts to raise awareness of fair housing laws and promote equitable housing practices.

Your work will support the Commission’s statutory responsibilities by conducting thorough fact-finding, analyzing evidence, and preparing comprehensive investigative reports within established timeframes.
