Nexus Specialty is seeking a Chief Underwriting Officer to join our growing team.
This individual is responsible for the overall management and direction of the Nexus Specialty Casualty’s Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) Underwriting department. Primary responsibilities include managing and directing the underwriting process of company’s ART market segments, successful achievement of defined underwriting objectives, effective training and development of underwriting personnel in each area of responsibility, and maintaining line-of-coverage supervisory responsibility for the entire program. This individual manages underwriting relationships with carrier partners relative to the overall underwriting needs of the company. This position is responsible for new product and program development initiatives, working jointly with President of Nexus Specialty Casualty.
How You Will Contribute:
- Define and set underwriting strategy, policy and procedure for selection of risk.
- Manage and oversee the underwriting review process with brokers and the quotation/referral process with the carriers.
- Ensure sound underwriting decisions that align with both carrier’s and Nexus’ underwriting philosophy.
- Work with Arrowhead actuarial and modeling teams on the required analysis for each ART risk.
- Develop and foster carrier relationships and maintenance of management reporting necessary to support underwriting unit.
- Manage and oversee total results for the ART business and effect necessary underwriting standards and changes when needed to achieve overall company objectives for all lines of business.
- Provide ongoing mentorship of underwriting and actuarial teammates.
- Any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the president.
Skills & Experience to Be Successful:
- At least 10 years of insurance experience focused on underwriting ART or Structured Solutions risks.
- CPCU designation preferred
- Property/Casualty license
- Actuarial background preferred
- Knowledge of rate and form filing process, underwriting manuals, underwriting guidelines
- New program development
- Well-developed network of insurer and reinsurer contacts
- Must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Pay Range
$250,000 - $290,000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
