The Senior Controls Engineer is part of an engineering team responsible for providing engineering and design support for sales and operations. This position assists in the design, build, and commissioning of equipment by preparing technical documentation in accordance with sales proposals, performance requirements, and client specifications.

 

 

Your Responsibilities Will Be: 

  • Research and reviews project requirements to develop a design suitable to meet the required performance while ensuring that the project budget can be maintained.
  • Develops and implements PLC software (Rockwell Studio 5000 and Siemens STEP 7) according to project requirements, usually by modifying an existing template.
  • Assists with the preparation of engineering documents including operating sequences, functional descriptions, and control diagrams.
  • Communicate with the project team to establish essential functions and deadlines necessary to finish specific projects.
  • Determines appropriate strategy to submit design RFQs to external vendors and manage equipment costs
  • Analyzes reports, drawings, and tests to plan and execute pollution control capital projects.
  • Completes the design process using the information contained within the documents and in-line with the Scope of Work; recommends necessary corrections to drawings via quality review process.
  • Represents CECO confidently; communicates precisely with third party vendors and customers (both in-person and digitally).
  • Reviews, redlines, and approves drawings and documents to ensure alignment with scoping and corporate standards.
  • Assists the sales team with preparation of scope and estimates for proposals.
  • Performs inspection and surveillance duties associated with outsourced electrical and controls procurement.
  • Assists equipment startup at customer site as required (remote and/or in-person).
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (EE or ECE) from an accredited program.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience designing and implementing control systems for OEM equipment. 
  • Experience designing control panels based on both relay and PLC control logic.
  • Experience writing PLC control logic (A-B and Siemens).
  • Knowledge of plant process control and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of related codes and standards, including NEC and NFPA.
  • Proficiency in technical writing required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a creative, professional, team environment.
  • Incumbents are expected to travel as needed to support assigned business lines(s) and must have the ability to travel across borders.
  • Required to have a valid driver license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific experience with burner controllers and safeties (Honeywell 7800, Siemens LMV5, etc).
  • Knowledge of NFPA 86 up to and including the 2023 edition, particularly regarding burner safeties including pre-ignition purge and related interlocks.
  • Experience designing control logic for safety PLCs in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Experience reading and reviewing electrical schematics generated by EPLAN or AutoCAD.
