Assistant Nurse Manager - Float Pool - Nights
UT Southwestern Medical CenterAbout the role
Description
Assistant Nurse Manager - Float Pool - Nights
About the Inpatient Float Pool Team
· The Inpatient Float Pool at UT Southwestern is a high-impact, system-level nursing team that ensures safe, responsive, and flexible staffing across both Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Float Pool RNs and PCTs are cross-trained to support more than 30 inpatient units—including multiple critical care areas, med/surg, oncology, telemetry, progressive care, rehabilitation, and complex specialty services—adapting in real time to fluctuations in census, acuity, and staffing demands.
· More than a coverage model, the Float Pool is a strategic clinical resource that partners with inpatient leadership, Central Staffing, and Hospital Administration to sustain safe care delivery and support hospital-wide operations.
About the Assistant Nurse Manager Position
· As a Float Pool Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM), you serve in a dual-impact leadership role that blends direct team supervision with enterprise-level staffing oversight. In addition to managing Float Pool staff and daily operations, the ANM routinely functions as House Supervisor, helping to maintain clinical continuity across the organization.
· Key responsibilities include:
o Collaborating with unit leaders to optimize real-time staffing based on acuity, skill mix, and patient flow
o Leading staffing huddles and facilitating shift reports
o Serving as a liaison between frontline staff and hospital leadership
o Addressing emergent staffing concerns with urgency and clarity
o Supporting employee health events and coordinating responses to rapid clinical escalations (e.g., codes, rapid responses)
· This role demands a leader who is agile, collaborative, and solutions-driven—someone who sees the big picture, prioritizes safe care, and develops an exceptional nursing team that thrives in a fast-paced, system-wide environment.
