Job Description

As a valued colleague on our team, you will act as team lead while conducting theoretical and empirical research with public and proprietary data in all areas of the mortgage finance business. This may include mortgage products and securities, borrower behavior, investment and hedging strategies, residential property valuation, macroeconomic models, including housing prices and interest rate, financial valuation of finance assets and derivatives, economic capital, and stress testing. Additionally, you will coach and mentor team members.

The Lead Quantitative Modeler role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute to providing innovative, thorough, and practical solutions that support business strategies and initiatives and in conducting or assessing ad hoc quantitative analyses, modeling, or programming using SQL, R, or Python.
  • Apply advanced skill, knowledge, and/or experience to complete modeling projects aligned with established company policies and industry-wide modeling practices.
  • Contribute to developing or testing strategies and assessing the quality and risk of model methodologies, outputs, and processes and applying understanding of relevant business context to interpret model results, monitor performance, and assess risks.
  • Create required model development, performance, and other documentation.
  • Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to department leadership and teams.

Qualifications

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field, e.g., mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science
  • 4 years of experience in quantitative modeling and analytics
  • Demonstrated experience in model development for forecasting while working with both modelers and business users
  • Ability to evaluate data sources deeply and thoroughly to improve forecast models
  • Ability to provide customer support in the areas of model forecast and analytics
  • Ability to design and build influential presentations and reports, oral and written, for diverse business audiences

Desired Experiences:

  • PhD degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field, e.g., mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science
  • 4 years of experience using Python or R or SAS, or STATA for model research and development: scikit-learn, pandas, regression tools, ML, data visualization, etc.
  • 4 years of experience using Python SQL libraries to connect and select records
  • Ability to work in a team environment, establish and maintain relationships within and across divisions while communicating technical results to non-technical audiences 
  • Demonstrated experience using some of the programming languages commonly used in modeling
  • Demonstrated experience in financial services/banking industry, mortgage risk analytics, credit risk modeling, macroeconomic modeling
  • Independently conduct research on model development, implementation, performance tracking, and enhance models to meet specific analytical needs
  • Independently perform ad hoc analysis for clients needing quantitative analysis of credit risk, product valuation, and asset analysis
  • Experience in AWS preferred
