Collins Aerospace is currently seeking a student engineer intern for our Avionics Human Factors team located in Cedar Rapids, IA. This is on onsite role. The team supports the advancement of our flight deck solutions and vision systems for commercial and military customers around the world. We work to develop early concepts and prototypes for emerging technology and engage in active programs to support certification requirements. Gain experience aiding in design reviews, prototyping, and test plan development and execution while interacting with multiple stakeholders and gaining knowledge of aviation regulations related to human factors.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain and champion a focus on sound Human Factor principles and provide expertise and guidance in technical discussions.

  • Creation and maintenance of Human Factors related certification support documents relating to AC25.1302, AC25.1322, and AC25-11B.

  • Create Human Engineering Design Approach Documents (HEDAD) and Human Engineering Requirements Checklists (HERCL) for military systems.

  • Participate in human factors verification and certification testing when required for 14 CFR 25.1302 programs.

  • Participate in new feature design via defining operational concepts, requirements capture, design development, validation, and documentation.

What You Will Learn:

  • Learn how to apply Human Factors principles to avionics design within a program lifecycle

  • Gain a better understanding of the regulatory environment as it pertains to the certification and airworthiness of avionics solutions

  • Learn how to advocate for Human Factors best practices within the larger engineering organization

  • Gain an better understanding of flight deck avionics and how the different systems operate

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Demonstrates good communication skills

  • Works well with a team

  • Pilot license

  • Knowledgeable in study design
