Description
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled Psychiatrist to lead our Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) services. This unique role offers the opportunity to provide transformative care to patients through ECT procedures, conducted three days a week in collaboration with our surgical department and on-site anesthesiologist. The ideal candidate will also perform psychiatric evaluations for inpatients on medical units and participate in call rotation for their own patients.
Please Note Scheduled Hours:
- 4 days a week, 5- 6 hours per day between the hours of (8AM - 5PM)
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Collaborate with the hospital’s surgery department and on-site anesthesiologist to ensure safe and effective ECT delivery.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for inpatients on medical units.
- Participate in call rotation for assigned patients, providing timely and responsive psychiatric care.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide psychopharmacologic assessments and manage medication regimens as clinically indicated.
- Supervise and mentor psychiatric nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and psychiatry residents as assigned.
- Ensure proper documentation of clinical activities, including informed consent, guardianship applications, and risk assessments.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and ethical standards of psychiatric practice.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and uphold best practices in ECT and inpatient psychiatric care.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment methods used in behavioral health and psychopharmacology clinical practice.
- Deep understanding of psychiatric theories, principles, and evidence-based practices.
- Familiarity with general medical principles and their integration into psychiatric care.
- Expertise in the types, characteristics, and clinical applications of medications used in behavioral health treatment.
- Proficiency in a broad range of clinical interviewing techniques for diverse patient populations.
- Awareness of public and private resources available for coordinating comprehensive behavioral health care.
- Ability to engage empathetically and effectively with individuals experiencing physical and/or emotional distress.
- Strong understanding of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and standards governing behavioral health services and clinical practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, guidelines, laws, rules and regulations governing behavioral health services.
- Familiarity with the types and uses of Lemuel Shattuck Hospital documentation and compliance policies.
