The Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking a motivated self-starting Experienced-Level C-17 Structural Design Engineer to join the C-17 Program Engineering Team located in San Antonio, TX

This position is a "hands on" position with the depot, requiring aircraft-maintenance oriented thinking. Work in a shop environment in and around the aircraft will be required, in order to work closely with the mechanics. This includes having a safety-minded mindset and being comfortable with PPE and potentially dirty/hot/confined work areas.

A well-qualified candidate will be comfortable interfacing with both Depot Engineering and Depot Operations to provide practical, timely responses. Prior military or civilian aircraft maintenance experience highly desired.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Provide on-site design assistance to Boeing San Antonio depot, and customer bases as required.
  • Interface with Company and Customer representatives.
  • Work closely with senior engineers in San Antonio, TX, and Long Beach, CA.
  • Provide context and requirement interpretation for all C-17 Fuselage, Wing, and Empennage Structure.
  • Provide guidance for design of repairs and modifications of metallic and composite aircraft structures.
  • Participate in design change development, release, and implementation.
  • Provide assistance to team members in use of C-17 NX/Teamcenter tools.
  • Provide assistance to team members for C-17 Product Data requirements.
  • Perform Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis for customer Discrepancy Reports.
  • Support C-17 Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Position can also report to 2nd shift, after training if requested.
  • May be asked to support other programs or perform other duties as needed.
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week.
  • Works under general direction.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering.
  • 3+ years' experience in aircraft structure, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes.
  • 3+ years’ experience in one or more areas of aircraft structures such as design, strength, fatigue.
  • U.S Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as Siemens NX, Teamcenter.
  • Experience with structural design principles for aircraft primary structures (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, and repair techniques).
  • Experience in Airplane Design, Stress Analysis, Liaison Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Boeing C-17 Aircraft Primary Structures.
  • Strong written, verbal communications and presentation skills.
