Summary
Under general direction, the Finishing Lead is responsible for operating all finishing equipment to create a variety of store displays, assists in providing work direction to department employees, and for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner in accordance with job specifications. The daily responsibilities will be split between running performing department operations, scheduling people and equipment and coordinating resources.
The Lead differs from other department employees in the level of skill, the training responsibility for other workers, and the responsibility for maintaining equipment. This is a working lead level and may provide direction, establish priorities, assign tasks, coordinate work projects and monitor the work of other employees.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Follow blueprints, work orders, or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements.
- Mix finish ingredients to obtain a desired color, shades, or specific finishes.
- Touch up surfaces, old finishes, damaged parts, or edges of wood pieces for finishing with various grinding equipment; may include pumice stones, steel wool, chisels, sanders, grinders, abrasives, solvents, or dip baths.
- Repair furniture or upholstery using plastics, wood putty, glue, nails, or screws.
- Disassemble items and mask areas that should not be exposed to finishing processes or substances
- Wash, clean, and prepare surfaces for finish application.
- Stencil, gild, emboss, mark, or paint designs or border to reproduce the original contours and colors of restored pieces, or to decorate new pieces.
- Apply protective finishes to products
- Remove excess solvent, using cloths soaked in paint thinner, clean finished products.
- Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to designated shift/department
- Enforce all safety and processing procedures
- Enable effective communications between management and employees
- Train new employees and coach existing employees on proper procedures and proper use of equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace
- Report all incidents relating to safety, attendance and poor performance to Department Manager
- Suggest and implement cost-saving ideas
- Attends required meetings and trainings
- Performs other duties as assigned
