Project Overview
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Position Overview:
As a Senior Automation Engineer, responsible for implementing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting a variety of commercial off-the-shelf engineering applications as well as the standard suite of Bechtel applications. This involves identifying, developing, documenting, and implementing technical innovations that add value and improve work processes.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in automation and innovation design with a strong understanding of the integration of engineering systems and software. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. This role will be based in Reston, VA, and periodic business travel to Poland offices and sites may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Applies engineering software/data management support and integration expertise to a broad range of computer-aided design and engineering software that support EPC work processes.
- Understands primary Bechtel engineering tools (i.e., SmartPlant, ANSYS, Tekla, and Bentley) or similar Off-The-Shelf tools and has a complete understanding of how upstream and downstream users are impacted by engineering data.
- Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices to data integration with commercial-off-the- shelf software.
- Coordinates with and supports technical team members in information systems, automation, and engineering in areas related to engineering authoring and integration tools.
- Assists in producing artifacts to convey data integration and management activities for review and coordination.
- Assists in training on-project users in the use of engineering software and related work processes.
- Must be well organized and can accomplish assigned tasks within established budgets and schedules.
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Collaborates with GBU and Project functional representatives, and customers to elicit requirements to support implementation activities.
- Effectively influences actions and opinions of others.
- Coordinates and collaborates with product vendors to relay requirements.
- Ensures automation-related procedures and work processes are maintained and followed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Computer Science or Engineering related BS (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Nuclear) degree at a US accredited institution with 6 years of related experience or AA/AS degree with 8 years of related experience; or in lieu of education a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 12 years related design experience.
- Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
