Compensation:
- $12.25/hr, paid at a 4:1 ratio (4 hours on call = 1 hour paid).
- Rate becomes hourly if/when actively working 1 or more continuous hour(s).
- You may work this position regardless of your work award amount.
Description/Purpose of Position:
● Break Community Assistants (BCAs) will fulfill the on-duty responsibilities of a Residence Life student staff member and assist community members living in the residence halls over the break periods through the provision of modified hall receptionist services.
Responsibilities:
● Break Community Assistant On-Call
○ BCAs shall carry the duty phone between the hours of 11am and 7am the following day (unless otherwise specified).
○ BCAs are not required to remain in a residence hall while on duty, provided they are able to respond to a call within 15 minutes of receipt.
○ BCAs shall take two rounds of their assigned buildings each shift: one daytime round, and one nighttime round (unless otherwise specified)
○ BCAs shall uphold the student code of conduct and respond to behaviors within the halls, in accordance with Residence Life training and standards of the position.
● Front Desk
○ BCAs shall be responsible for the provision of front desk services in an on-call capacity.
○ Residents will have the opportunity to check desk items out during specific periods during the day.
● With the exception of adjusted times and additional responsibilities outlined above, the on-duty expectations of BCAs remain unchanged from regular academic-year responsibilities for RAs and SHCs/JCs.
Summary of Time Commitments for Each Shift
● 11am-7am: BCAs are available to assist residents with lock-outs, check-ins, and other concerns. During this time, BCAs will also conduct residence hall rounds.
● 3pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm (tentative): BCAs are available by phone to check items out of the front desk for residents.
Required Qualifications
● At this time, the Break Community Assistant position is only open to current and former RAs, IAs, SCAs, CBMs, SHC/JCs, and other Residence Life student staff roles as appropriate (includes J-term substitutes).
● Attendance of mandatory Traka Box training (provided by AC Staff).
Wage Range: $11.75-12.75
