Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Supervises all plant production activities on 2nd shift (6:30pm-7am). Responsible for meeting production schedules and standards, producing product in accordance with applicable customer requirements, and maintaining optimum production at the least possible cost while adhering to all Amcor Rigid Packaging USA Inc. safety requirements. Supervises shift maintenance personnel and regular maintenance staff in the absence of the Plant Maintenance Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Directs the manufacturing and material handling activities on a given shift.
2. Ensures employees are performing tasks in accordance with safety policies.
3. Trains and supervises hourly employees in these activities; administers plant rules and procedures; recommends employees and candidates for hire, promotion, demotion, transfer, disciplinary action and/or termination.
4. Effectively manages the work schedule within the department to prevent idle time and provides for the optimal use of personnel, machinery, and material. This includes the proper use of any established work standards and incentive plans.
5. Maintains standards of quality to meet customer and internal specifications. Strives for continuous improvement in quality performance through proper training, good communication, effective leadership/supervision, and follow-up with all members of the shift.
6. Directs and coordinates activities concerned with continuous improvement of all company activities, driving the warehouse toward efficient operations.
7. Implements and maintains “5S” methodology on the production floor.
8. Maintains safe working conditions throughout the plant by taking corrective action on unsafe conditions or acts. May serve as a member of the Plant Safety Committee. Implements all approved safety recommendations, and ensures compliance with established safety standards, including lockout/tagout, hearing conservation, and other programs required by law and/or management.
9. Conducts pre-shift safety meetings with shift.
10. Effectively handles employee complaints, suggestions, questions, and conflicts in accordance with the guidelines established in the Employee Handbook and in accordance with company policies/procedures. Maintains employee morale and discipline through fairness and impartiality.
11. Responsible for monitoring and approving employee hours worked using the Kronos timekeeping system
12. Responsible for reporting the following information at the end of each shift:
a. Production achieved by department / machine / product
b. Runtime / downtime by department / machine
c. Maintenance, installation and/or test work performed
d. Deviations from acceptable quality standards and product disposition
e. Material receipts and shipments
f. Material problems, outages, and action taken
g. Daily safety check list
h. Personnel problems, absenteeism, time worked
