Design Stress Engineer Intern -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Barberton, Ohio

 

BWXT is currently seeking a Design Stress Engineer Intern for its Barberton, Ohio facility.

 

We are looking for motivated college students to join our highly-skilled team of engineers for an exciting summer internship in Barberton, Ohio.

 

At BWXT, our interns perform challenging tasks in their field of study while developing and delivering unique solutions for use in a nuclear environment. Our interns work collaboratively as part of our manufacturing and operational teams and will tackle various projects and tasks relating directly to fabrication and engineering challenges. Interns will be exposed to various parts of the manufacturing process that may include process and procedure creation/revisions, assisting with product and/or tooling improvements, perform testing and analysis, and assist with engineering and shop operations personnel on a daily basis. A BWXT internship not only provides valuable on the job training but allows you to be a part of something bigger!

 

BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Barberton, OH.  Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks. At the end of the internship, each intern has the opportunity to present their completed work/ assigned projects to the leadership team.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Design Stress Engineer Intern’s main assignments will be to support the design team perform stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products. The intern will support the Design Engineering Team with various tasks including but not limited to:

 

  • Support in performing stress analyses of nuclear pressure vessels and other highly engineered products.
  • Assist with conducting finite element analysis, custom post-processing software, and closed form analytical techniques. 
  • Assist with perform standard and advanced structural analysis methods including linear elastic sizing, fatigue, elastic-plastic, fracture mechanics, shock and vibration, and thermal/mechanical. 
  • Work with members of other engineering disciplines (manufacturing, quality, welding, drafters, thermal fluids, etc.) in a team environment to generate component designs to meet code requirements and to optimize the design for manufacturability. 
  • Work closely with on-site manufacturing to resolve real time fabrication related issues.
  • Communicate effectively in presentations and written technical reports.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must be enrolled full time in an accredited university/college in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering or similar degree.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in presentations and written technical reports.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior internship experience
  • Experience in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) software (preferably Abaqus or Ansys). 
  • Experience of computer programming codes (ex. C++, Fortran, Python, etc.)
