About the role

SEL designs and manufactures electronic devices that monitor and protect the power grid. These devices prevent blackouts, protect power system equipment, and keep people safe. They also provide cybersecurity, automation, and communication for the power grid. As an Electrical Engineering Intern in the Government Services Department of SEL, you’ll help design and test the equipment that helps our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems.

 

As an Electrical Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following: 

  • Learning about how the power grid works and how to protect it.

  • Performing fundamental research and writing white papers to answer customer questions.

  • Programming digital relays.

  • Writing and performing tests to confirm equipment functionality.

  • Wiring, soldering, and assembling electrical equipment.

  • Running simulations of power grid equipment.

  • Developing and maintaining knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.

  • Documenting work and giving presentations.

 

This job might be for you if you possess the following:

  • Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Ability to work part time during the school year and full time during the summer.

  • Passion for learning new things.

  • Strong conceptual knowledge of calculus, physics, and electrical engineering fundamentals.

  • Research skills.

  • Experience in programming or script files.

 

Location Information - Pullman, Washington

SEL’s corporate office is located in the city of Pullman in Eastern Washington. Pullman is a rural university town featuring many benefits of smaller town life: country space, freedom from traffic, easy access to recreational activities in nearby mountains, rivers, and forests, as well as great schools and local universities.

Pay Range Data

($19.50 - $32.50 per hour) Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate). Talk to your recruiter if you are curious about the rate for your year in school
