Supervises and coordinates EMS resources assigned or dispatched to an assigned geographical area. Ensure on-duty personnel and equipment are maintained in a state of readiness and that staff members consistently perform in compliance with their position description and with the policies/procedures of the department. Performance is evaluated in cooperation with Shift Supervisor, Training Officer, Assistant Chief of Operations, EMS Chief and Medical Director by observation and through review of records and reports. May also serve in command position during mass casualty incidents or prolonged operations. May rotate to position of Paramedic Supervisor during his/her absence.Major Job Functions

Supervises and coordinates the work of a staff of Emergency Medical Technicians, AEMT and Paramedics assigned to a specific geographical area
Functions as a Quick Response Paramedic within assigned district
Communicates with other shift and lead paramedics to exchange information concerning operational and personnel concerns, special assignments and vehicle status
Coordinates with Paramedic Supervisor, Assistant Chief of Logistics or Fleet Maintenance regarding vehicle and equipment repair needs
Performs routine inspections of vehicles, equipment, and assigned facilities/stations.
Follows established lines of authority and responsibility and ensures that service objectives are met and maintained
Attends continuing education classes and trains on a regular basis to the satisfaction of the Training Office
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Current certification by the State of North Carolina as a Paramedic required
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) as sponsored by American Heart Association required
Certification in “Advance Cardiac Life Support” (ACLS) once required
Certification in “Pediatric Advanced Life Support” (PALS) once required
Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800. NIMS 300/400 required within six (6) months of assignment required
Must possess and maintain a current driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Work Experience:
2 year’s experience as a Paramedic with CCEMS required
3 years licensed driving experience in North Carolina or the equivalent required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous materials incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used
Knowledge of the state, federal and local rules/regulations pertaining to ambulance systems
Knowledge of current emergency medical transportation service needs of the county
Knowledge of techniques and procedures involved in rendering professional medical care and transportation
Knowledge of Cumberland County geography, particularly locations of major streets, buildings, hospitals, doctors’ offices
Ability to read road maps rapidly and accurately while under stress
Knowledge of and the ability to apply correctly, the policies and procedures of the EMS Department
Ability to supervise departmental operations, subordinate staff, and communicate with all levels of employees in a composed and responsible manner
Ability to act in the capacity of a paramedic while reviewing the performance of other advanced life support personnel
Ability to perform under stressful conditions and to maintain leadership of the department under these conditions
Ability to deal tactfully and firmly with the general public, other county, and/or city personnel
