Position Overview

The Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will provide the business and finance leadership teams with financial planning leadership around budgets, forecasts, key performance indicators, and variance analysis to support sound business decisions. The role will focus on providing business partners financial insights and analytics to drive business decisions.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and continuously improve reporting and tracking mechanisms, and tools and processes to support effective, and accurate financial planning across the company.
  • Lead the budget and headcount planning process; including, but not limited to, the annual planning cycle, periodic forecasting, and scenario analysis in conjunction with underlying business development plans and objectives for the various businesses supported by this role.
  • Create new analyses and reporting to ensure that management has a clear understanding of the significant financial issues that impact company profitability. 
  • Seek updated financial planning information regularly with all business units to ensure the most up to date forecasting and financial management.
  • Work closely with finance and the business to ensure prompt and timely monthly financial reporting to senior management.
  • Liaise with the finance teams to obtain a detailed understanding of the annual plan, forecast and monthly financial reporting information, identify business opportunities, and work in conjunction with the business leads to identify strategic opportunities, business development plans, and report on risks and opportunities. 
  • Support the preparation of financial presentations and narratives for board of director meetings, monthly operating reviews, quarterly management summaries to support earnings releases, and operating plans and forecast presentations. 
  • Provide high quality and timely analytical support for projects, strategic initiatives, business development proposals, and other investments. 
  • Assess and improve FP&A reporting processes and quality.
  • Develop, analyze, and report continuous key management, business, and profitability performance metrics.
  • Escalate to senior management any quality concern in a timely manner.
  • Supervise staff; including, but not limited to, organize and prioritize work, write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance.
  • Communicate goals clearly to employees to ensure understanding and success in achieving them.
  • Motivate and inspire employees to do their best work through coaching.
  • Maintain morale and support employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to support cross-functional cooperation and build strong working relationships between finance, business units, and operating teams.
  • Ability to independently and objectively think to properly evaluate, communicate, educate, influence, and gain cooperation in reaching consensus, decisions, and action.
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone, or by email.

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability and means to travel 15% between local Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 15% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • 6+ years of experience in working in an FP&A function with progressively increasing responsibility and scope.
  • 3+ years of experience with directly leading people.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with results orientation and initiative to convey a sense of urgency and drive issues to closure.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and P
