Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense Space & Security seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to support the software development of electro-optical systems at the Starfire Optical Range, Kirtland AFB, NM.

This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. Our site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements enabled by quality, passion, and dedication. We are engineers and technicians from varying fields who plan, design, integrate, and test optical, electronic, and quantum systems to achieve research objectives.

You will join a multidisciplinary team supporting the development of electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems. You will assist with documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain code.  Integrate software into a fully functional software system.
  • Assist with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Document deployed processes and tools and collect metrics.
  • Support software research and development projects.
  • Troubleshoot basic software issues.
  • Develop architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms.
  • Work as part of a team and independently to handle broad responsibilities.

In order to meet security standards and protocols, all work is performed onsite at Kirtland AFB.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Experience with Xilinx, Altera or other FPGA VHDL.
  • Experience programming in C or C++.
  • Experience with System on Chip (SoC) hardware or software.
  • Experience integrating hardware and software components into a functional system.
  • Understanding of Agile SDLC.
  • Experience in Version Control Systems (SVN and GIT).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience developing code for Systems on a Chip (SOC).
  • Experience working in VHDL, C, C++, Java, MATLAB).
  • Experience with FPGA Processor or Memory interconnects.
  • Software development experience for bare metal or RTOS implementations.
  • Experience with communication interfaces, including DDR, QSPI, UART, RS-422, RS-485, and Ethernet.
  • Coding experience for sensor acquisition and processing.
  • Experience working with mixed signal oscilloscopes and function generators.
  • Experience with OS driver development.

Typical Education & Experience:

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
