Undergraduate Laboratory Operations Manager

As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University in Indianapolis invites applications for a full-time staff position as Undergraduate Laboratory Operations Manager. This position is currently open, and the selected candidate is desired to start as soon as possible. A background in Biology, Chemistry, or a related laboratory discipline is required. This position is responsible for the oversight and management of laboratory preparation, student workers, procurement, and program support. Individuals holding advanced degrees are also invited to teach courses or supervise undergraduate research activities in line with their discipline, expertise, and interest.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee preparation, set up, maintenance, and tear down of the weekly science laboratories.
• Inventory, maintain, and order chemicals, specimens, cultures, laboratory supplies, and laboratory equipment.
• Manage laboratory budgets including daily operations and capital requests.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratories, laboratory preparation spaces, and storage areas.
• Provide laboratory safety training for students, student workers, and faculty as necessary.
• Develop and maintain service protocols and schedules for safety and laboratory equipment including testing, calibration, service standards, and documentation.
• In conjunction with Laboratory Coordinators and The Exchange, hire, train and manage student workers, both in laboratory and non-laboratory positions.
• Supervise collection of chemical and biological wastes from undergraduate teaching labs and arrange for appropriate disposal per university protocols
• Work collaboratively with department faculty to assure smooth program operations.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.
