Senior Manager, Strategic Planning & Operations, Inflammation Research

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will serve as a strategic partner to the VP Research and the Inflammation Leadership Team, translating TA strategy into measurable priorities, operating plans, and outcomes. You will facilitate strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, technology and AI-enabled initiatives, business operations, and executive communications across the Inflammation Therapeutic Area.

This role combines scientific insight, strategic thinking, operational leadership, and organizational influence to accelerate delivery of transformative medicines to patients.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership

Partner directly with the VP Research and Inflammation Leadership Team to define, execute, and track TA strategy, annual goals, long-range priorities, and operating mechanisms.

Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals, action plans, milestones, KPIs, and accountability frameworks that improve decision-making and execution across the TA.

Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner on portfolio, organizational, capability, and investment decisions.

Turn complex or unstructured business, scientific, and operational issues into clear action plans, cross-functional initiatives, and decision-ready deliverables.

Operationalize portfolio governance and planning

  • Enable effective portfolio governance by coordinating the processes, analytics, operating mechanisms, and follow-through required to support leadership decisions.
  • Develop portfolio dashboards, KPI metrics, risk assessments, and reporting tools that provide timely visibility into portfolio health, execution, and organizational performance.
  • Work with TA leadership to coordinate governance activities and decision forums, ensuring effective preparation, communication, execution, and action tracking.
  • Partner with scientific and portfolio leaders to surface risks, opportunities, tradeoffs, and resource requirements while supporting informed and timely decision-making.
  • Promote accountability for implementation of governance decisions and strategic priorities across the organization.

Advance technology, AI, innovation, and capability development

Coordinate TA-level technology, AI, computational, and innovation initiatives that strengthen research strategy, portfolio execution, and scientific decision-making.

Partner with scientific leaders to identify capability gaps, evaluate innovation opportunities, and encourage adoption of emerging technologies and best practices.

Leverage AI-enabled tools and operational systems to improve portfolio management, project reviews, knowledge synthesis, decision support, and operating efficiency.

Support external collaborations by helping track scientific progress, milestones, budgets, risks, and decision points in partnership with scientific and business stakeholders.

Enhancing organizational effectiveness and culture

Drive leadership team effectiveness, operating cadence, and cross-functional alignment across the Inflammation TA.

Lead high-priority special projects involving organizational design, talent strategy, capability building, change management, and operational improvement.

Contribute to a strong scientific culture by supporting planning offs
