Description
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Modern Hebrew starting in Fall 2023. The position is a non-tenured annual appointment, renewable in one-year increments every five years. Primary duties include teaching three courses per semester of elementary and intermediate Hebrew language, advanced conversation courses, and possibly an independent study which the lecturer may design.
Qualifications
Credentials: M.A. degree (minimum), experience in undergraduate language teaching; native or near-native language ability in Hebrew and English; enthusiasm and ideas to develop an interest in studying Modern Hebrew at Case Western Reserve University. The ideal candidate will be committed to working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
The DMLL offers undergraduate majors and minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and
Spanish; Italian and Russian minors; and Arabic and Portuguese courses. Courses in
Hebrew language, culture, and literature will soon be added to the curriculum. The department is
associated with interdisciplinary programs in World Literature, Women’s and Gender Studies,
Ethnic Studies, International Studies, and Judaic Studies. Department faculty lead short-term
study abroad programs in Cuba, France, Japan, Jordan, Italy, Spain, and Taiwan. The department
has also developed specialized language courses for the professions: health, business, law,
engineering, and diplomacy.
