POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant or Associate Director of Strategic Communications.
The successful candidate will serve as the strategic communications and social media contact for the 14-time national champion and five-time defending national champion Penn State wrestling team. This position will also oversee student contacts with the men’s and women’s tennis teams. Assignments are subject to change. Duties as the primary strategic communications and social media contact include leading the overall communications, PR, media relations and creative content strategy for the assigned teams; enhancing and collaborating on student-athlete branding strategies and execution; generating feature content, photo, video and other unique coverage for team social and website channels; producing online team record books, news releases and feature stories; coordinating media requests in a strategic manner; facilitating social media in line with department goals; staffing home and select away events; supervising student assistants as well as statistical crews and other event support personnel; other duties as assigned.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Spark, etc.), website content management systems, social media platforms and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred. Experience in photography, recording and editing video is desired. Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a related field plus work-related experience in communications or public relations is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also required. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is required. Position requires considerable initiative, creativity and independence.
This position will be filled at the level of Advanced Professional or Senior Professional, depending on the final applicant's experience and education. Minimally requires a bachelors degree plus three (3) year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions.
