The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a permanent and/or seasonal full-time Vet Assistant to join our make a difference for people and animals at our Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The WHS Spay/Neuter Clinic makes spay/neuter accessible and performs thousands of surgeries each year. The clinic also partners with our Pets for Life program to provide free surgeries, making an impact not only for animals, but for the whole community.
As a Veterinary Assistant at our Spay/Neuter Clinic, you will hone your surgical support skills while working alongside our fun and committed team of veterinarians and support staff, along with a management team dedicated to supporting your growth and development. The Vet Assistant reports to the Spay/Neuter Clinic Manager and works first shift. Key Accountabilities
- Efficiently prepare canine and feline patients for surgery while ensuring safety and sterility
- Assist with patient movement, monitor vitals under anesthesia, intubation and extubating, provide post-operative care
- Assist with patient exams, take medical history, prepare medications to go home with the patient, and provide medical diagnostics, vaccinations and treatments as needed.
- Clean and maintain equipment, surgical quarters and animal areas
- Participate in low-cost community vaccine clinics
- Ensure prompt and accurate paperwork procedures are followed
- Provide excellent customer service during admission and discharge procedures and when responding to client inquiries
- Commit to a welcoming, supportive, and non-judgmental approach with all clients, co-workers, and volunteers
Qualifications & Requirements
- Availability weekdays from 730am-530pm required
- Ability to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
- Animal handling experience in a veterinary clinic or shelter setting with a commitment to fear free handling preferred

Hiring Range: $15.12-$16.80
