Position Summary
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of exercise programs for patients. Assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Assists with the creation of educational materials and sessions for patients and their families.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting in exercise testing. Familiar with equipment being used and responsible for keeping it sterilized.
- Administers exercise stress tests in healthy pediatric patients and those with congenital heart disease.
- Evaluates a patient’s overall health, with special attention to cardiovascular function and metabolism, under the direction of a physician.
- Ensures patient safety at all times. Makes decisions about termination of the exercise test by monitoring heart rate, ECG changes, oxyhemoglobin saturation and blood pressure. Performs any needed emergency procedures.
- Generates test report by transferring data from exercise equipment to report form, with subsequent interpretation by physician.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree
Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related allied health field .
Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology or related specialty preferred.
Approximately 2 years of experience in cardiac rehabilitation environment or related area.
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
ACSM certified as a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CCEP), Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) or at least Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP), or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Patience and a high capacity for empathy and perseverance.
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)
