About the role

The Catherine Cutler Institute at the University of Southern Maine, in partnership with the Maine CDC, is seeking a Research Associate II: Project Coordinator. 

The Research Associate II (RAII) delivers project coordination services provided under contract to Environmental Health Program within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The RAII manages and supports the management of US CDC-funded environmental health grants including, but not limited to, a Climate and Health grant, an Environmental Public Health Tracking grant, and a Strengthening Environmental Health Capacity grant. 

This position will:

  • Manage and coordinate multiple CDC-funded environmental health grants, including workplan oversight, reporting, budgeting, contract management, and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Lead and support public health initiatives focused on extreme heat, extreme cold, pollen exposure, and environmental health resilience across Maine communities. 
  • Monitor environmental health events, track data, and disseminate timely information and resources to public health partners. 
  • Collaborate with state agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders to develop and implement environmental health programs, data systems, and public health interventions. 
  • Oversee and enhance the MaineTracking Network and support development of environmental health data resources, including private well water and pollen monitoring initiatives. 
  • Facilitate stakeholder groups, meetings, and interagency collaborations; gather and synthesize feedback, research, and scientific literature. 
  • Support communications efforts through newsletters, social media, websites, grant applications, reports, and research publications.
  • Monitor program expenditures, approve invoices, provide task-based staff oversight, and travel statewide as needed to support program activities. 

This is a grant funded position with a starting annual salary up to $73,000.  This is a full-time, hybrid remote position, with in-office days at the Maine CDC building in Augusta.
