The overall purpose of this position is to define, implement, and maintain the Networking and Unified Communications infrastructure of the IEEE. The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for providing highly available network services, and to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of IEEE information systems. This position provides focus for the architecture, integration, development, and support of the IEEE voice and data network environment, and serves as the subject matter expert for layers 1-5 of the OSI model. The role typically reports to a manager, and manages 0 direct reports. This position works under the Manager of Networking and Unified Communications. The incumbent must act independently and provide solutions to complex situations.

Job SummaryThe overall purpose of this position is to define, implement, and maintain the Networking and Unified Communications infrastructure of the IEEE. The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for providing highly available network services, and to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of IEEE information systems. This position provides focus for the architecture, integration, development, and support of the IEEE voice and data network environment, and serves as the subject matter expert for layers 1-5 of the OSI model. The role typically reports to a manager, and manages 0 direct reports. This position works under the Manager of Networking and Unified Communications. The incumbent must act independently and provide solutions to complex situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining the IEEE LAN/WAN, which includes maintenance of network hardware and software, Internet connectivity, building wiring, wireless networking and communications closets
- Supports voice and video conferencing systems, including VoIP PBX, PSTN connectivity, and Contact Center
- Provides network support for off-site meetings as required (Travels several times per year).
- Understands and assists with the support of network wired and wireless services.
- Evaluates and troubleshoots network problems
- Evaluates and recommends new and emerging technologies and how they may benefit the IEEE.
- Provides input to facilitate development of network strategies, philosophy, direction, planning, etc.
- Leads network projects, which include installation of network hardware/software, configuration and design.
- Provides guidance, work direction and information to other technical teams.
- Provides assistance to Sr. Network Analysts, Facilities, and IT Management.
- Recommends and provides guidance for improving the availability, scalability, performance and management of IEEE Business Systems and services.
Qualifications
Education- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Computer Science or related technical discipline Req
- 4-7 years applicable network analyst employment experience Req
- 4-7 years general network administration experience Req
- Must be able to work independently and in teams.
- Must have good communication skills
- Working knowledge of an enterprise computing environment.
- Experience in installation and maintenance of network wiring/cabling.
- Working knowledge of routers, switches, and layer 2-7 load balancers.
- Knowledge of network troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to monitor and resolve problems with distributed computer systems components.
- Knowledge of network QoS
- Knowledge of distributed processing operations, procedures, and equipment.
- Experience in the application of problem-solving techniques.
- Knowledge of LAN, SAN, TCP/IP, and VoIP protocols
- Knowledge of VPN technologies and support.
- Ability to analyze packet captures to identify and resolve communication issues
- Knowledge of computers and software.
- Ability to process information logically and solve problems.
- Ability to identify and define user enterprise network needs.
- Knowledge of WAN/LAN network topologies, protocols, and telephony/voice networks.
- Knowledge of network security practices.
- Knowledge of Internet Architecture such as BGP.
