St. Mary’s Pain Center uses a multi-disciplinary approach to evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic pain. Anesthesiologists with specialty training in pain management are available for initial evaluation and the development of a care plan that addresses the individual needs of each patient. A care plan may incorporate several methods of treatment for effective pain relief.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering direct patient care in accordance with the established scope of practice within the Outpatient Services setting. The RN collaborates closely with physicians, the Director of Surgical Services, the House Supervisor, and other healthcare professionals to monitor and communicate changes in a patient’s clinical condition, including diagnostic results and symptom progression.
The RN must be capable of responding quickly to fluctuations in patient status or treatment responses, ensuring optimal care delivery. The role requires coordination of patient care in collaboration with the surgeon and/or anesthesiologist, and providing direction and guidance to other healthcare personnel while upholding the highest standards of care within the outpatient department.
The RN will work cross-functionally with various departments and team members to promote efficient patient flow, maintain unit organization, and ensure the provision of high-quality patient care throughout the continuum. Additionally, the RN is responsible for adhering to all regulatory requirements, clinical standards, and hospital or department-specific policies and procedures.
Participation in performance improvement initiatives, unit meetings, and in-service training sessions is expected. The RN will also serve as a clinical resource to fellow team members as necessary, supporting ongoing education and development.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Provide direct patient care in the Outpatient Services setting, within the scope of practice.
- Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary care team regarding patient condition, diagnostic results, and response to treatment.
- Coordinate patient care in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers.
- Guide and mentor other healthcare personnel while maintaining clinical care standards.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care.
- Adhere to regulatory guidelines, organizational standards, and departmental policies.
- Participate in performance improvement activities, meetings, and continuing education.
- Act as a clinical resource for colleagues, fostering a culture of learning and teamwork.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
1. Current and valid state RN License.
2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. ACLS 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
4. Previous acute care hospital experience; preferred.
5. Moderate Sedation competency completed within 30 days upon hire.
6. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
