Job Summary
The Wound Management APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides leadership and direct patient care services for patients with a variety of wounds including patients on the plastic surgery patients as deemed appropriate. The wound care APP provides direct patient care, performs physical exams, provides clinical expertise, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. In addition the APP performs procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, serves as a professional consultant, coordinates care among the interdisciplinary teams, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. The Wound Care APP works collaboratively with a variety of health care providers and teams in planning and the coordination of patient care. The Wound Care NP/PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
Procedures performed may include but not limited to:
- Sharp debridement
- Punch biopsy
- Shave biopsy
- Incision & Drainage
- Compression wrap application
- Application of skin substitutes
- Debridement of nails & callous
- Suture placement
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant program, Masters or Doctoral Degree preferred.
NP: Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner program for adult care.
Certification
PA: PA-C
NP: AGNP or AGACNP or ACNP or FNP
- with WOC certification preferred
Licensure
PA: Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with approval to practice as PA
NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with approval to practice as an NP.
Experience
PA: Minimum 1- year experience as a Physician Assistant preferred, but not required. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
NP: Minimum 1-year experience as an NP or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
Physical and mental requirements:
• Able to clearly articulate scope of practice and practices within those guidelines as an NP/PA in the state of North Carolina and within the Duke University Health System (DUHS)
• Able to independently seek out resources and work collabora
