Department/Unit Summary:
The environment in this new unit will be upbeat and challenging. It will embrace strong team collaboration, with nurses and providers participating in rounding.
The patient population on this unit in our new tower expansion at Vanderbilt University Hospital will be adult patients ranging in age from 18 years and older who are being treated for Acute Respiratory Failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Multisystem Organ System Failure, Sepsis, Drug Overdoses, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Hypertensive Crisis, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, and Liver Failure/Cirrhosis.
One of the perks of working in this unit will be the unique opportunity of opening a brand-new unit with a multidisciplinary team. In addition to traditional ICU assignments, another perk is the inclusion of progressive care beds which allows nurses to care for patients who need more monitoring than a general care or stepdown unit, but not the full intensity of ICU care.
Shift:
- PRN Night Shift - 6:45 pm - 7:15 am
- PRN staff are required to work a minimum of four 12-hour shifts every six weeks; however, candidates must commit to a full-time orientation period (three 12-hour shifts per week) for the first 4 weeks of employment.
- Night shift & PRN employees are required to attend hospital orientation during regular daytime hours during the first week of employment.
Care Partner Position Qualifications**:
Required: High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
AND one of the following:
- Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical), or
- Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required), or
- Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of acute care experience in a hospital setting
- Flexible availability
- Professionalism and reliability
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High emotional intelligence
