Task requirementsAF REM ALLCES PROJECT 1
The Armed Forces Remuneration Team owns Defence policy on Pay, Pensions and Allowances, which accounts for nearly £10Bn of taxpayers’ money. Within that wider team the Armed Forces Allowances Policy Team is responsible for the formulation and development of Service allowances policy and governance of allowances policy through Joint Service Publication (JSP) 752. The Team aims to provide targeted and cost-effective support to Service personnel during the varied circumstances they experience due to the demands of Service life over and above that already compensated by the X-Factor.
Team purpose:
To deliver an affordable, attractive and agile remuneration package that, as part of the overall offer, enables the recruitment and retention of Service personnel. The Remuneration Team is pivotal in ensuring that Defence has the right people, with the rights skills, in the right numbers at the right cost to the taxpayer to remain a world class military. The Team must ensure that the remunerative aspects of the reward package to Service Personnel (SP) are sufficient to meet this purpose whilst remaining affordable within the wider defence budget.
Role purpose:
- Develop effective Armed Forces Remuneration policy which demonstrates agility of application, meets value for money assessment and is ultimately deliverable.
- Provide clear, unambiguous policy direction and communications on Armed Forces Remuneration to ensure SP are aware of the financial components of the ‘offer’, enable sS Military staffs to respond to requests for advice at the lowest level and support operational delivery colleagues to discharge their respective functions.
- Contribute to allowance policy reform resulting from recommendations in the Haythornthwaite Review (HRAFI), continuous improvement and simplification of existing policy and in support of the wider people policy initiatives such as the Modernised Accommodation Offer (MAO).
- Actively contribute to the creation of a Remuneration Division that delivers on its strategic objectives through a common understanding of its strategic direction, having the capabilities and commitment to achieve successful outcomes, and having strength in depth.
