Laboratory Technician III - Kimura Lab

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a self-motivated technician to support the research performed in the Kimura lab. The Kimura lab uses diverse approaches, including bacterial genetics, biochemical approaches, animal infection models, and next generation sequencing techniques to study the mechanisms underpinning bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance. In this role you will work with a research team on one or more projects to study pathogens’ translation modulation mechanisms as a part of an effort to deepen our understanding of bacterial pathogenesis and lay the foundation of new therapeutics.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- General lab duties, including buffer and reagent prep
- Provide support with basic molecular biology tasks, including cloning, plasmid purification, PCR, gel electrophoresis, validation of construct, RNA extraction, reporter assays, sequencing library preparation, and protein purification.
- Conduct bacteriology and colonization experiments using mice and rabbit after training.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and notify the supervisor of concerns.
- Maintain laboratory supply inventory, including placing orders and receiving for the lab.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Biology or a related field and up to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
- Knowledge of basic chemistry, buffer prep, and calculations.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software.
- Able to function independently.
- Able to successfully complete Cornell training courses (i.e. animal use, chemical safety), if not already completed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field.
- Experience with molecular cloning and biochemical experiments.
Important Details about the Position
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
- This is a full-time one-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
