Purpose
Financial Planning and Strategy: Financial consultant to the Director of Finance and other Center directors. Responsible for overseeing and conducting complex accounting and finance functions for the Center. Collaborate with directors, managers, and staff in strategic planning and fiscal short- and long-term goal setting, including those to meet both University and Center goals. Develop the department's annual operating budget including endowments, grants, and general operation funding.
Responsibilities
Ensure all Wildflower Center accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions are processed accurately and timely according to UTs accounting policies and procedures. Work closely with Center directors as a subject matter expert in the grant management process (especially post-award). Monitor account balances, monthly reconciliations, and distribute financial reports as needed to PIs (Principal Investigators), and interpret budgeting-related financial data to advise the team on strategic and appropriate fund use. Serve as department contact for UT Accounting system. Maintain routing system for electronic documents. Prepare correcting and transfer documents.
Work with staff PIs to monitor their grant accounts. Execute the entry of the data of the annual budget into the accounting database. Transfer funds within and between accounts. And ad-hoc analysis as assigned: prepare statements, reports, estimates, and/or projects as requested. Provide accounting and financial support and services to various teams and leadership teams as requested. Compile/add to the Standard Operating Procedure for the team as a living document of reference. Optimize accounting processes to better support and achieve the center's mission and values. Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills. Process and oversee the department's administrative requests related to procurement, contracts, and budget/coding questions. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. Five years of responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, and financial analysis. Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial data. Demonstrated strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and on multiple projects within a team, and under pressure of strict deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience working with complex Excel spreadsheets and large amounts of data. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to take initiative. Must have reliable transportation to and from 4801 La Crosse Ave., Austin, TX 78739.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience at The University of Texas or another college or university. Interest in nature, conservation, and the environment. Commitment to providing excellent customer service. Compassion and integrity. At least three years of experience at UT Austin. Previous audit, budget, and/or reconciliation experience. Experience with DEFINE, Workday, FRMS, UT Market, PointPlus, and IBM Cognos business intelligence suite. Work experience at UT Austin and knowledge of the university's business policies, procedures, and account structure.
