Job Description  

Hayward Engineering is a small team of engineers, driving the design, development, qualification, improvement, and support of processes and equipment for the high-volume manufacture of Otsuka’s novel ingestible sensor device.  Our sensor manufacturing leverages elements of semiconductor, medical device, pharmaceutical, and web / roll-to-roll based continuous manufacturing.  We are a data-driven and compliance-focused company pioneering its way in this newly emerging regulated market. 

This position will support the implementation of an improvement project to upgrade an existing manufacturing system that evaluates ingestible tablets with an embedded sensor.  This role will be developing a test plan, testing and troubleshooting equipment, collecting and analyzing data to evaluate the impact of the process improvement, drafting revisions of production-related documents, and presenting their findings to various departments at the Hayward site, including Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Assurance.  The internship will conclude with a final presentation to internal departments on testing the implementation of a new script to improve how the system evaluates the quality of tablets. 

  

Qualifications 

Minimum: 

  • By Fall 2025, candidate must be considered an undergraduate senior or master’s student 

  • Engineering-related field or engineering major, including electro-mechanical, manufacturing, chemical, process, electrical, bioengineering, mechanical 

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship.  

  • Can commit to full duration of internship program.  

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Completion of coursework in areas related to data analytics, engineering statistics, manufacturing, process improvement, process control, or operations  

  • Experience in root cause analysis preferred 

  • Data analytics software experience: Excel, JMP, or similar analytics software 

  • Ability to analyze data, create visualizations, and present insight from data 

  • Excellent, detail-oriented verbal and written communication skills
