About The Role
As a Sr. Payroll Specialist, the position reports to and will be the right-hand to the Payroll Manager. This person will become a subject matter expert for activities related to weekly corporate payroll processing which requires strong communication and interpersonal skills. The Senior payroll specialist will own certain general assigned payroll functions during payroll processing, including but not limited to weekly payroll audits, prevailing wage submissions, while ensuring timely and accurate reporting, adhering to management or external deadlines. The Senior payroll specialist will take initiative to improve processes and recommend automation improvements in the spirit of continuous improvement. In addition, the Senior payroll specialist will become a subject matter expert in the underlying processes and be instrumental during system, controls, policy and procedure implementations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process multi-state payroll for more than 100K employees including SCA employees in multi payroll platforms
- Audit timesheets accurately to ensure wages and benefits are properly distributed
- Accurately record and document all transactions as directed
- Research, analyze, and resolve all discrepancies, reporting to management as needed
- Monitor all accounts continually for accuracy
- Ensure direct deposits are received timely and changes to payment options are made timely
- Maintain comprehensive understanding of state laws and union expectations
- Collaborate cross functionally with our payroll tax, accounting, and other areas of the organization
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally to all areas of the organization
- Ability to meet and/or exceed key performance indicators while managing priorities and meeting deadlines
- Participate in continuous learning and development training activities to train others
- Ability to work independently and in team setting in a remote environment
- Research and analyze complex matters regarding state/federal compliance, garnishment matters, unemployment
- claims and verification of employment
- Subject matter expert for payroll projects including leading the meeting or creating a solution
- Ability to work cross functionally with other teams with a customer service mindset
- Conduct year-end reporting for W-2s etc.
- Communicate with HR teams to make necessary changes/updates to accounts
- Serve as a backup to the Payroll Manager
- Complete weekly payroll procedures within prescribed timeframes in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with internal payroll policies
- Research and resolve discrepancies in employee pay.
- Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Lead payroll projects involving accounting, 401k and Worker's Comp audits, other audits as they arise.
- Prepare and review schedules in support of external audit requirements
- Provide customer service to internal customers by providing ad hoc reports, analysis and answering questions
- Create procedure and policies as needed
- Ensure tax entity notices are handled timely
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred
- Payroll Cert
