The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:

The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM.  The AMPCC focuses on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

The Senior Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. 

What You Will Do:

  • Development, demonstration, and documentation of design methodologies and tools for additive manufacturing including conventional CAD and implicit modeling-based approaches

  • Execution of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) projects to support business unit evaluation and adoption of additively manufactured components and systems

  • Topology optimization for generation of geometries enabled by additive manufacturing across structural, thermal, or hydrodynamic domains

  • Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, process, and manufacturing engineers to gain a deep understanding of the full value stream

  • Support RTX Business Units by providing design expertise and best practices

  • Collaborate with internal and external groups to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals

Qualifications Required:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, Creo, etc.) for mechanical design or product engineering
  • An understanding of the AM process using laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition
  • Experience with finite element analysis (e.g. Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL)
  • An understanding of generative design or implicit modeling concepts
  • Scripting experience with CAD tools, Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
  • US Citizenship required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. 
  • Work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to try new ideas and continue advancing technology
  • Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
  • Highly self-motivated and detail oriented
