Senior Software Engineer (Node.js)

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for a software engineer with experience building and maintaining data pipelines and backend systems. You will participate in the discovery, design and engineering of multiple cross-functional projects, and help troubleshoot complex business and production issues as they arise. You will uphold industry best practices and will help encourage our team to continuously improve. Above all, you care about delivering quality software in a sustainable and timely manner and about software craftsmanship.

Sitting within the Customer Ops portfolio, the Enrollment Domain Systems team builds and maintains tools that interface between the University Student Information Systems and 2U systems to effectively support our students, faculty and internal content and learning teams. The team implements and maintains tools and ETL that perform data intake, validation and transfer from the SIS data to 2U’s CRM and other downstream systems. The team is also responsible for user authentication and authorization into the LMS systems and maintains tools enabling that function.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Write maintainable, performant code
• Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability
• Conduct exploratory and automated testing
• Efficiently debug complex problems
• Lead technical design of applications and participate in larger system design efforts
• Provide technical guidance and feedback to other team-members

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• 4+ years experience with NodeJS
• Experience working with ReactJS
• Hands-on SQL, Databases like Postgres
• AWS services: S3, Lambda, SAM 
• Background delivering quality software in a sustainable and timely manner
• Prior experience leading cross-functional development initiatives and projects

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

• Experience with serverless development 
• Data analytics tools (Tableau, Qlik)
• Salesforce CRM (API)
• AWS Services: SNS/SQS, API Gateway, DocumentDB
• Monitoring and alerting tools like Datadog or Prometheus

While this position is open to remote candidates across the U.S., we will prioritize those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Lanham, MD two days a week.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($120,000 -$140,000), with potential bonus eligibility.  Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
