Thank you for your interest in applying to the Advanced Certificates in Dual Language or English Language Language Development for Academic Literacy at San Diego State University. 

Please carefully review the following steps to apply:

  1. Apply to the university using Cal State Apply. This will start your application process and you will receive an assigned SDSU ID (your SDSU student ID number).

  2. Send your official transcripts to SDSU Graduate Admissions. You can view full instructions on the Graduate Admissions webpage.

  3. Complete this supplemental program application. You will see "Interfolio Faculty Search" throughout this application--this is the system we are modifying to accept program applications this year. If you have any technical issues completing this application, please contact Interfolio. For all other questions, please contact the program.

Please note. After you apply, you will receive your SDSU ID -- Your SDSU ID is required to submit your program application.

If you have not received your SDSU ID within 10-15 business days of applying, please contact Graduate Admissions. SDSU IDs may be issued anywhere between 1 and 15 business days, depending on when you apply. We recommend submitting your Cal State Apply application as soon as possible to ensure you receive your SDSU ID on time.

Qualifications

Gather the items below and have them ready to upload to the program application:

  • Teaching Credential: If you have a credential please enter the Credential Document Number from your teaching credential in the Program application. If you are in the process of finishing a credential program, you can enter the date when you will be finished. 
    • ELD for Academic Literacy: A teaching credential is not required for this program, just experience with multilingual English learners.
    • Dual Language: Either a bilingual credential or authorization, or a Spanish credential is required.
  • Writing Sample: You have two options. (1) Upload an academic writing sample or (2) Write a 500-800 word (double-spaced with 12 point font) statement of purpose that addresses the following:
    • Your background or experiences working in diverse school and community settings
    • How the certificate program can contribute to your further learning and development
    • Your goals as a graduate student and educational professional
  • Letters of Recommendation: Contact one to two individuals who you have interacted with professionally and would be able to write a letter of recommendation for you regarding your experience with English Language Learners. Recommenders will submit their letters directly into the Online Program application.
