General Summary
- The Simulation Technician provides technical and mechanical support for the Phelps Health simulation center under the direction of the Simulation Coordinator and Director of Clinical Nursing Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
- Programs, operates, and maintains patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations ensuring physiological response of simulators are to instructor specifications. Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment (may involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up), provides theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested, including mixing fake body fluids and creating wounds.
- Maintains and repairs all simulation equipment, including: patient simulators, computers, monitors and a variety of medical equipment; task trainers and multimedia peripherals; troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors as needed.
- Collaborates with supervisor to organize, maintain and restock skills lab and simulation laboratory supplies.
- Provides technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors and staff in use of simulation equipment.
- Assists with the collection of data for ongoing research or grant requirements.
- Performs data entry into a variety of databases.
- Assists and supports simulations for group of learners including Medical Assistants, Patient Care Assistants, and Nursing Students.
- Validates student retention of learning objectives in clinical areas post-SIM lab experience using detailed checklists provided by the SIMs Coordinator.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Education
- AS degree in healthcare or information management field or combination of education, training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in possession of the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of this position.
Work Experience
- One year of clinical experience preferred with knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technology.
- Experience in maintaining confidentiality of information.
- Skills in operating a PC with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation.
Certification/License
- BLS Certification required, must be obtained within the first 30 days of hire.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
- Teaching environment with office noise and distractions. Potential exposure to infectious disease. Slight possibility of encounter with hostile persons.
