JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, this position manages and coordinates activities of a multifaceted physical plant operation that provides effective support and services to all College campuses, including the buildings, custodial, and grounds.  Duties include: ensuring that the condition of all College facilities maintains the highest possible standard of excellence in providing an outstanding learning environment for students; developing, implementing, and expanding programs and schedules for preventive maintenance, equipment replacement, and energy conservation for continuous facility improvements.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides general oversight of the Physical Plant Department for planning, budgeting, and coordinating, including facilities maintenance of all College buildings as well as grounds maintenance, custodial services, fleet maintenance, and shipping and receiving.
  • Manages all day/evening maintenance performed at all campus sites.
  • Provides guidance to assist team in the growth and fulfillment of their respective duties; provides the direction, organization, and supervision for all clerical staff, including selection, assignment, and performance evaluation; approves leave requests; addresses complaints and grievances; establishes scheduling policies; ensures accuracy of hours worked for hourly and salaried employees; provides equal access to training and staff development for all plant employees; and interprets policies for employees.
  • Assist in the preparation of the physical plant budget in a fiscally responsible manner in line with the College mission and goals.
  • Provides professional and technical direction regarding proposals, specifications, and construction standards; reviews and evaluates Department work products, methods, and procedures.
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations concerning environmental protection, fire and electrical underwriter codes, safety, boiler and pressure vessel codes, and other codes and regulations which may apply.
    • Represents the Physical Plant Department in meetings with College staff, contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors; coordinates College and community events.
    • Provides estimated the cost of repair projects
