Purpose: Assist in directing and managing the overall planning and administration of the Fitness/Wellness Program, providing day-to-day and on-site coordination of its programs, services, systems, policies and procedures, personnel, and resources.
Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Associate Director for Fitness/Wellness, coordinate daily operations of the comprehensive Fitness/Wellness Program (Texercise, Personal Training, Heath Coaching) to include programming and class development, specialty classes, scheduling, personnel, policies and procedures, publicity and promotions, registration management, facility and space needs and the maintenance, purchase and inventory of equipment.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, train and evaluate part- time staff to include group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and other staff who work with the program; coordinate payroll; develop and maintain written employee materials; plan and conduct meetings, training sessions, and clinics; develop training series to prepare employees for national fitness certification exams.
- Provide on-site coordination and evaluation of activities; advise, address and resolve issues, problems, conflicts and concerns as assigned, and interact with program participants to ensure that accurate information and positive experiences are attained.
- Assist in the pursuit of outreach, special event and partnership opportunities within the university community to promote Fitness/Wellness activities and programs; collaborate with both internal and external constituents to enhance program offerings, communicate important information and advance new initiatives.
- Maintain equipment inventories and purchase equipment as needed; maintain budgetary records and sales reports; make recommendations for capital expenditures.
- Prepare annual reports for all areas of responsibility to include data collection and statistical analysis, evaluations and surveys, activity assessments and program recommendations.
- Attend conferences, prepare proposals and presentations, and maintain current knowledge relative to higher education administration, campus recreation and fitness/wellness programming and operations.
- Provide leadership in the overall Programs Area, serve as a back-up to other program areas and contributing member of staff; attend and participate in regular staff meetings, serve on committees and perform other duties as assigned; utilize strategic planning, conceptualization, critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving, creativity, initiative, vision and innovation to ensure quality in all areas of responsibility.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and experience in a college-level recreational sports program. Experience in fitness and wellness administration, event coordination, personnel administration and/or managing recreation programs. A successful candidate possesses exceptional interpersonal, mentoring, leadership, motivational, accountability, time management and multi-tasking skills. Ability to think critically and strategically. Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, organizational and planning skills. Technical proficiency. Current ACSM, AFAA or ACE primary certification in group exercise and or personal training.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Recreation, Exercise Physiology, Sports Administration, Student Personnel Administration or a closely related field. At least one year of experience administering a Fitness/Wellness Program or a two-year graduate assistantship in campus re
