Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Monday -Friday 8a-430p

The hospital offers outstanding ancillary services including Laboratory, Radiology and Therapy services. At our Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, women can have their annual mammograms, biopsies, and can meet with a nurse navigator if needed. The Women’s Center offers six newly remodeled labor and delivery suites and has a secure nursery for the care of our newborns. Position Summary:

This position is designed to provide supervisory leadership to Ultrasound (US) staff level employees, coordinating such activities with the Imaging Department’s Director/Manager. Provides assistance to radiologists, physicians, nursing and others in the care of Ultrasound patients. The Team leader’s clinical expertise and knowledge of Ultrasound are such that complex patient management and physician issues are resolved independently. Ultrasound team is expected to perform the job duties as listed below. The Ultrasound team leader is responsible for maintaining a safe Ultrasound Department environment for all.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills and develops ultrasound protocols with guidance of radiologists/physicians. Oversees high level disinfection compliance.
  • Performs all duties of Ultrasound technologists.
  • Assists the Director/Manager with capital budget, operating budget and monitors productivity for Ultrasound Department. Oversees the daily operation of the Ultrasound Department.
  • Assumes responsibility to ensure that ultrasound equipment is functioning properly. Performs quality control testing/procedures to ensure ultrasound equipment operate on optimal levels.
  • Ensures that preventative maintenance is performed according to the established schedule.
  • Implements and maintains Quality Assurance protocols and Quality improvement measures. Knowledge of ultrasound and imaging procedures demonstrated through technical expertise in equipment use, positioning and procedure protocols
  • Assists in establishing policies and procedures, department objectives, process improvement programs and safety standards.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, general safety and Ultrasound safety standards, and equipment quality control. Acquires and maintains ACR, or other accreditation as required.
  • Serves as a role model to others by assuming the role of the team leader, responsibilities of a preceptor, cross-trains to other areas and provides education to the community and department.
  • Assists in determining Ultrasound Department’s sonographer staff educational needs. Provides in-services as needed, including training, instruction, and education to imaging technologists, nursing and other related areas.
  • Serves as a clinical or technical resource by overseeing the work of other personnel, orienting/training staff, and monitoring work.
  • Educates, trains, orients, and assists new staff members. Provides clinical education for student technologists.
  • Participates in performance appraisal of staff, in hiring process by providing recommendations to the imaging manager, prepares documentation and forms for possible disciplinary actions to director/manager, provides recommendations to manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
  • Makes work assignments and directs work activities. Coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings. Performs payroll edits.
  • Ensures the sonography examination order is complete, contains relevant information. Conducts patient clinical assessment. Obtains and documents pertinent clinical information and technical findings for review by physician for order clarification and follow-through.
  • Identifies and documents any limitations to the sonography examination. Reviews examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare preliminary findings for physician prior to physician interpretation. Documents any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care.
