JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of general clinical and administrative functions, patient care activities, and optometry diagnostic tests.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One-year experience working in a medical environment involving patient care, medical terminology, and routine office procedures preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Records patient information such as ocular history, family history, previous adverse drug reactions and allergies, systemic illness, and details of present medications. 2. Established rapport with patients during diagnostic tests and examinations. 3. Administers color vision tests, lensometry and checks visual acuity. Performs tonometry with Tonopen. Conducts Keratometry, autorefraction, stereo acuity testing, and corneal thickness measurements. Dilates eyes when necessary. 4. Trains patients on proper care of contact lenses; including insertion, removal and cleaning. 5. Performs routine maintenance of equipment using established methods of cleaning and sterilization. 6. Advises patients of appointment and direct/escort to proper examining room. 7. Answers phone, retrieves and files medical records, notifies patients when contacts/glasses are ready. 8. Performs routine maintenance, i.e. repairs, cleaning, and adjustments on equipment. 9. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal and clerical skills.
- Good math skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Combination of medical office and exam/procedure rooms.
- Well-lighted, well-ventilated, and adequate space.
- Frequent exposure to diseases, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
