Job Description

AECOM is a world leader in the in-service inspection of structures, and the Boston office takes pride in being among the strongest within AECOM. Be part of a diverse, energetic team assessing the present condition of our infrastructure (especially bridges, tunnels, and parking garages). Gain knowledge of how all components of a structure or system work, make observations of any deficiencies, and work to prepare recommendations or estimates for their correction.

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Bridge Inspector / Junior Structural Engineer to be based in the Boston, Massachusetts office.

This position is expected to begin in December 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate various work access equipment such as aerial lifts, bucket trucks, and under-bridge inspection units.
  • Work at heights, in traffic closures, over water, along tracks in confined spaces, or at night.
  • Write reports and sending communications related to the inspections.
  • Work under a team leader to neatly, accurately, and thoroughly document field findings, which may involve writing, entering data, drawing sketches, or taking photographs.
  • Must be diligent and communicative, understand the scope and schedule of each piece of work undertaken, and be proactive in making sure the team is aware of any progress or delays.

While most work is within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, some work will involve travel. Over the past year, inspection work has brought some Boston team members to California, Puerto Rico, Virginia, and Georgia.

AECOM is a large company, and the Boston office is a large office within the company. With that, there are plenty of opportunities to undertake structural design, perform analysis or load ratings, get involved with structural health monitoring, asset management, drone inspections, and much more. While proficiency at any of these aforementioned efforts is not a requirement for this position, it is important that desires to work on such tasks be conveyed, as the managers at AECOM are highly proactive in helping the staff grow professionally.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a 4-year ABET accredited program.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

PREFRRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam; for applicants that have not, it will be expected that this be passed in their first two years of work.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation is not offered for this position.
  • Hybrid work options are available with this position.
