JOB SUMMARY: AHA’s Phlebotomy Team Lead is responsible for training AHA’s phlebotomy team and ensuring all assigned Phlebotomists are following AHA’s Policies and Procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draw blood and/or obtain other specimens as requested at regularly assigned Nursing Homes as part of the morning schedule (2:00 AM to 8:00 AM); must be scheduled in such a way that you are available to assist in other territories if required;
  • Deliver specimens to lab or courier as scheduled;
  • Ensure Phlebotomists have been properly trained in all areas of their responsibilities (refer to the Phlebotomy Training Manual);
  • Prepare and distribute Phlebotomy schedules; reassign phlebotomy routes due to unexpected call-offs (sick, emergency, etc.) to ensure all patients are being serviced timely;
  • If you need coverage for a Phlebotomist and can’t find someone else to do it, then it becomes your responsibility to cover the open route and/or phlebotomy shift;
  • Assist AHA’s Phlebotomy Supervisor to ensure the phlebotomy morning run is completed ontime;
  • Collect and price phlebotomy mileage logs for payroll purposes;
  • Rearrange schedules as needed to compensate for call offs/unable to obtains (UTO);
  • Notify Phlebotomy Supervisor or District Phlebotomy Director of any concerns pertaining to the failure to follow any of AHA’s pertinent policies or procedures by phlebotomists;
  • Assist with annual technical evaluations of Phlebotomy team which entails monitoring Phlebotomists during their regularly scheduled work shift(s);
  • Evaluate Phlebotomists following disciplinary action and/or suspension due to improper phlebotomy conduct or error;
  • Must provide proof of ownership or unrestricted use of a safe, dependable, duly registered automobile as required;
  • Must provide Proof of Insurance and in the required coverage amounts: $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 or the suggested: $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 always;
  • Must maintain a clean driving record which will be checked annually;
  • Other duties assigned.

TEAM LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assign/manage Phlebotomy schedules; reassign shifts due to call-offs daily;
  • Responsible to provide phlebotomy coverage as needed;
  • Collect and price mileage logs for Phlebotomy Supervisor daily;
  • Assist in annual phlebotomy QA evaluations or as needed;
  • Review phlebotomy paperwork daily;
  • Ensure Phlebotomists have proper supplies daily, including coolers;
  • Assist with new hire training and on-going training as required;
  • Escalate unresolved issues to AHA’s Phlebotomy Supervisor;

Phlebotomy Team Leads are paid additional compensation daily for the duties described above (Team Lead Pay). This pay is authorized when AHA’s Team Lead is actively working and performing the essential duties of this position for AHA. Phlebotomy Team Lead pay is not authorized/paid on non-worked days (ex: vacation, sick, unexcused absences).

Requirements

This position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Subject to the applicable, all prospective hires will need to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for medical or religious accommodations.


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have at minimum: High School Diploma; Proof of training as a Phlebotomist from an accredited training school or equivalent, as deemed sufficient by AHA; Ability to communicate in English, position requires excellent communication with the facilities staff members, patients and co-workers; Must be able to read and write in English, follow instructions and complete all pertinent documents in English.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum two-years clinical phlebotomy experience as a Phlebotomist; Minimum one-year nursing facility draws preferred. Participates in continuing education and competency testing programs to ensure that laboratory and professional standards are met.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License from the state where the primary work is performed. Phlebotomy Certification from an accredited training school or equivalent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to speak English so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation, both in person and on the telephone. Must be able to read, write and complete pertinent documents in English.
