National Grid is hiring a Senior Supervisor, Power Plants in Port Jefferson, NY.

Job Purpose

Provide on the job direction, supervision, and technical support of the physical workforce conducting a range of maintenance, repair, installation and overhaul work on grounds, buildings controls, and systems in order to support the efficient, safe and reliable operation of power stations

Key Accountabilities

•    Lead crews in the maintenance, repair, modification, or installation of all types of equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation of power plant assets
•    In depth knowledge of safe work rules and practices for crew members at Power Stations 
•    Prepare work plans and assigns work to personnel in order to ensure the effective utilization of manpower and resources
•    Monitors the progress of projects to ensure quality of work and analyze and resolve problems
•    Prepares reports and forms  to track manpower usage, personnel data, project status, and maintenance history
•    Train and instruct personnel, recommend training of personnel, and track personnel qualifications to ensure that staff has the proper training and qualifications to complete assigned work
•    Initiate requests for equipment outages to perform maintenance, repairs, and installations
•    Enter and track equipment failure data to analyze opportunities for maintenance and repair projects
•    Administer the Company-Union contract, local plant rules, and safety procedures to ensure fair and consistent application of the contract and compliance with company policies and procedures
•    Recommend purchases and care of equipment to maintain power plant assets
•    Recommend better methods and procedures  to minimize non-productive time and work slow-downs due to unavailability of tools, materials, or parts
•    Responsible for obtaining work permits (Hold Offs/System Clearances)  to safely allow crew members to complete work.

 

Qualifications

•    High school diploma or equivalent
•    5 years experience in the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment
•    Working knowledge of control, electrical, and/or mechanical equipment
•    In depth knowledge of safe work rules and practices at Power Stations.
•    Detailed Knowledge of the Power Plant Hold-off System and System Clearance Procedures. 
•    Able to supervise others
•    Capable of being certified as NYS Asbestos Handling Supervisor
•    Able to work overtime, rotating shifts, and nights both incidental and prolonged

Salary

$115,000 - $135,000 a year
