The Senior Engineer, Manual Testing is a member of MissionSquare Retirement’s Technology Engineering and Delivery (TED) team creating MissionSquare’s next generation web and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications. The Senior Engineer, Manual Testing is responsible for designing, developing, and executing end-to-end manual functional tests, integration tests, and regression tests of MissionSquare’s web, mobile app, and CRM solutions. The Senior Engineer, Manual Testing writes, executes and documents test cases, tracks defects, validates and closes defects, and provides input on quality issues and procedures.
Essential Functions for this role include:
- Define test objectives and plans for each agile iteration or project phase in alignment with test strategy.
- Collaborates with business and technical team members to understand business and technical objectives for each user story and feature.
- Determines story testing requirements by reviewing story acceptance criteria; interviewing business and technical stakeholders; and eliciting, analyzing, specifying test scenarios.
- Develops and execute manual functional tests and manual integration tests to validate user stories meet acceptance criteria.
- Collaborates with automated test engineers to identify manual regression tests that are candidates for automation.
- Maintains a comprehensive suite of manual regression tests that have not been automated (functional, integration, and UI), adding new tests to the manual regression suite following each agile iteration or project phase.
- Executes manual regression tests to ensure existing functionality remains working as designed prior to each release.
- Log defects in ALM defect tracking tool, collaborate with developers to resolve defects, retest failed test scenarios, and close defects once remediated.
- Reviews test results with Product Owner and feature Solutions Architect and reports and communicates testing progress to the manager, business owners and their proxies.
- Assist the team in developing functional documentation for projects as needed.
- Provides production support to resolve operational issues in conjunction with other technical and functional teams.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in testing complex transactional web applications and defects management.
- Experience writing SQL queries to assist in validating test results.
- Mobile application testing experience a plus.
- Strong technical problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Experience in financial services or other regulated industries a plus.

- 3+ years of hands-on experience maintaining a manual regression test library
- Proven ability to create test scenarios and acceptance tests against Agile User Stories
- Experience with manual web services and API testing (REST)
- Experience creating and executing SQL queries and creating test data sets
- Demonstrated experience with application lifecycle management (ALM) tools such as Rally, Jira Agile, or HP Quality Center or similar
- Superior ability to identify issues and produce possible resolutions based on automated test results
- Experience creating requirements traceability matrices
- Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail
- Strong written/oral communication skills
